Abstract In this paper we study the effect of violent crime on residential and firms location decisions their implications for segregation in cities. We do so by proposing a new instrument to exogenously predict city centers. base our chemical medical evidence that links local characteristics soil lead poisoning aggression. show increase between 1960 1990 due moved almost 8 million people suburbs. Firms followed leaving then suburbanization process was characterized “white flight”.
